API 5L X42 GRADE B

X42 Pipeis a type of pipe that is used conveying oil and gas materials over long distances. The 5L X42 Pipe is called the line pipe and API 5L X42 Pipe is one of the many grades that are available within this specification. The American Petroleum Institute monitors the material grades, standards and nominal sizes of the X42 Pipe Material and the products. The materials can vary depending on the mechanical properties required by the line pipes. High temperature services would require higher mechanical properties and the low temperature; low pressure services can use some lower grade API 5L X42 Seamless Pipe types.

The specification covers both seamless and welded pipes. There are product specification level 1 and 2 in this specification as well. The API 5L X42 Psl2 is used with applications that require higher mechanical properties such as high pressure containment, high temperature tolerance and high corrosion resistance. The API 5L X42 PSL1 Pipe has lower mechanical properties which makes it cheaper and frequently used.
